FAQs About Scrum

From the official Scrum Guide:

Scrum (n): A framework within which people can address complex adaptive problems, while productively and creatively delivering products of the highest possible value.

Scrum is:

  • Lightweight
  • Simple to understan
  • Difficult to master

Scrum is a process framework that has been used to manage work on complex products since the early 1990s. Scrum is not a process, technique, or definitive method. Rather, it is a framework within which you can employ various processes and techniques. Scrum makes clear the relative efficacy of your product management and work techniques so that you can continuously improve the product, the team, and the working environment.

The Scrum framework consists of Scrum Teams and their associated roles, events, artifacts, and rules. Each component within the framework serves a specific purpose and is essential to Scrum’s success and usage.

The rules of Scrum bind together the roles, events, and artifacts, governing the relationships and interaction between them. The rules of Scrum are described throughout the body of the Scrum Guide.

The Scrum Master is responsible for promoting and supporting Scrum as defined in the Scrum Guide. Scrum Masters do this by helping everyone understand Scrum theory, practices, rules, and values.

The Scrum Master is a servant-leader for the Scrum Team.

The core skillset of a Scrum Master is: Facilitating, Coaching, Mentoring & Training.

The requirements for becoming a Certified Scrum Master are minimal. In fact, you could say there’s only one: have an interest in understanding the Agile mindset and Scrum framework. Anything else, you will learn as you go through the certification topics.

The official Certified Scrum Master course takes 16 hours (2 days). After that, you will take a test for which you need to get a minimum of 74% for you to get your certification.

All though as the Scrum Guide says, Scrum is easy to understand difficult to master, the certification will give you and understand of Scrum and the mastering will come with implementing it afterwards.

Certification makes a Scrum Master a more valuable candidate for the job because provides an unbiased third-party verification of job-relevant skills.

I enjoyed the course, the pace was good for me,the content and learning mechanisms very effective. I have done agile courses before with like minded individuals, so it was interesting to see and observe the reaction from "technical"participants regarding the chaos represented by the games. Maybe some objectives to games, and examples/videos of where games work afterwards may give so context?
